BASIX Certificates throughout the Mid North Coast

Building Sustainability

All new residential building applications in NSW need a BASIX (building sustainability index) certificate. In order to obtain a BASIX certificate, a sustainability assessment of your proposed project needs to be carried out. BASIX outlines the commitments of the property in relation to energy, water and thermal efficiency, showing compliance with Government sustainability requirements.

BASIX certificates are required for:

  • New houses
  • Building alterations
  • Renovations over $50,000
  • Additions to existing structures
  • Villas, townhouses, units
  • New granny flats
  • New dual occupancies
  • Swimming pools & outdoor spas larger than 40,000 litres

Visit the BASIX website planning portal to access the online assessment tool at ( https://www.basix.nsw.gov.au/) to get started. The goal of the BASIX system is to make each home more comfortable and cost-effective. Once all requirements have been met a BASIX certificate is issued.

Do I Need A BASIX Certificate?

Not every building needs a BASIX certificate, there are a few exemptions such as commercial and industrial buildings and minor residential alterations and additions less than $50,000.
